Renewable Energy: Gulf Stream to Generate Power |
Artist’s rendering (Handout provided by Florida Atlantic University) |
US Drives, Inc. inverters are used in the renewable energy project conducted by Florida Atlantic University. These tests involve suspending turbines in the Florida Straits Gulf Stream to see whether the powerful ocean current can be used to generate electricity. The test turbines are about three meters in diameter, nine to fifteen miles off shore.
The US Drives, Inc. inverters are based on the Phoenix AC drives series. US Drives, Inc. Inverters are based on decades of experience in the motion control industry that uses a proven technology platform. Expertise from these highly successful industrial variable speed AC drives is the basis for the various renewable energy inverters developed by US Drives, Inc. |

Grid-tie Solar Inverters
|
The grid-tie inverters are designed to operate with DC string voltages up to 1500 VDC. The 1500 VDC inverter utilizes a novel three-level architecture and offers the best energy harvesting and long term reliability available in the industry. |
EV Inverters |
When GM introduced their first all electric car the EV1, US Drives, Inc. was asked to develop a test inverter to simulate real driving conditions and to life test the electric motor used in the electric car. Later on, US Drives, Inc. was also asked to develop a test inverter for the hybrid car electric engine. The inverters were delivered after GM engineers witnessed the test and approved the inverters with their new hybrid engine. |
